Warwick Valley Central School District Extended School Year Program continues to keep students moving with daily fitness activities in the Sanfordville Elementary gym.

Today's featured teamwork activity was a high energy game of “Battleship,” which kicked off after students completed some light stretching exercises. During the game, teams threw balls to knock down their opponents’ bowling pins. Designated “scuba divers” retrieved balls to keep their teammates supplied.

Whenever all four of a team’s pins were knocked down, students quickly adapted by joining a new group,
encouraging collaboration and flexibility.

“The goal is for students to practice teamwork in an adaptable setting,” Robert Maslanka, Warwick Valley
physical education teacher, explained. “It teaches them how to handle adversity and encourages effective interaction with new teammates.”

Each day includes a fitness activity in the morning, followed by another teamwork-based activity
in the afternoon. Some previous student favorites: classic games of soccer, as well as “Mission Impossible,” during which students work together to tackle challenges and achieve common goals.
