WVMS student announces starting Mets lineup on SNY

Warwick Valley Middle School student (and ardent Mets fan) Lucas Huesca enjoyed a truly unique experience on Tuesday evening, when he got to announce the New York Mets starting lineup during the Mets Pregame Show on SNY.

Lucas sent his audition materials to SNY to be one of this year's "Kidcasters," and network officials told him he did such a great job that they wanted him announce the starting line up from the Mets dugout! Lucas said he couldn't have been more excited for the chance to announce his favorite team.

"It meant the world to me, because of how much I love the Mets," said Lucas, who has broadcast booth aspirations! "And it also felt like it was the official start of my career!"

During the half-hour broadcast that leads up to game time, hosts Gary Apple and Todd Zeile "threw it over to Lucas" for the lineup segment.

"Thank you, Gary, so much for this opportunity," Lucas began, standing in front of the Mets logo and holding the SNY microphone. Then, he launched enthusiastically into the assignment, announcing Mets manager Carlos Mendoza's starting lineup that would face off against the Chicago Cubs.

In case you were wondering...

  1. Caron Benge (RF)
  2. Bo Bichette (SS)
  3. Juan Soto (LF)
  4. Jared Young (1B)
  5. AJ Exing (CF)
  6. Marcus Semien (2B)
  7. Brett Baty (3B)
  8. MJ Melendez (DH)
  9. Francisco Alvarez (C)

And... "On the bump today for your New York Mets," Lucas enthused, "number 34... Kodai Senga!"

Great job, Lucas. Let's go Wildcats and Let's go Mets!
